Why handwritten Arabic is tricky for OCR
Arabic is always joined, letters change shape depending on where they sit in a word, and many letters share the same base and differ only by dots: ب ت ث ن ي, or ج ح خ. In fast handwriting, two dots often become a short dash and three dots a small caret, or they drift onto the neighbouring letter. Get one wrong and you get a different word.
This tool is told the text is Arabic and to pay attention to the dots, hamza forms (أ إ آ ؤ ئ) and taa marbuta (ة). It reads whole words in context, which is how a fluent reader resolves dots that are smudged or misplaced.
Proper right-to-left output
A common problem with Arabic OCR is reversed or disconnected text, where letters show up in the wrong order or don't join when pasted. You get Unicode Arabic in logical reading order, displayed right-to-left in the result box, so it pastes cleanly into Word, Google Docs or a chat.
Useful for
- Class notes and homework in Arabic
- Handwritten letters and family documents
- Notes in Persian or Urdu, which share most of the script
- Filled-in forms and handwritten receipts
- Arabic learners reading a teacher's handwriting
Diacritics and numerals
Harakat (fatha, kasra, damma, shadda) are kept only if the writer wrote them; the tool doesn't add vowels. Eastern Arabic numerals (٠١٢٣) and Western digits (0123) stay in whatever form the page uses.

Frequently asked questions
Can it read Arabic calligraphy?
Everyday Naskh and Ruq'ah handwriting work well. Highly decorative calligraphy such as Diwani or dense Thuluth compositions is hard to read even for people, so expect [?] marks.
Will the text come out reversed?
No. The output is in logical Unicode order, so it displays and pastes correctly right-to-left.
Does it translate Arabic to English?
No, it gives you the Arabic text. Paste it into a translator if you need English.
Is there an Arabic-language version of this page?
Yes, the same tool in Arabic is at /ar/tahwil-alkhat-alyadawi-ila-nas.
Is it free?
Your first image is free without an account. A free account gives 3 credits plus 1 free credit every day.
